Twinkle Twinkle Little Star + An Interesting Experience

Tuesday, April 2, 2013
Hello! This is an overdue entry but I'm still determined to write about it, since it holds a very interesting experience that I would love to share!
A week prior to this event, a regular customer of mine ordered a Kit Kat rainbow cake with her cousin's favourite characters on it. You can YouTube "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and you'll find a video starring these two friends; an owl and a star.

In the video, there were trees as well. Imagine the KitKat and fondant leaves are the trees.
Also, this song is mostly sung to babies as a lullaby to sleep.
How about a little metaphor, dearies? Doesn't the cake resemble a bed? ;)
(and of course, the blue night sky)

Here are the steps and fondant work I made the night before;

Stars

Clouds

And our two main characters!

Have a look below for the close up!

What do you think? :)

Also, while setting up the cake at the party, the crew from the KFC branch at Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang (India Street) were there to cater the event. Have you ever noticed that little KFC near the famous Kuching Open Air Market? It is located opposing the Police Station. Yep, that's the one! It has been there for more that 10 years and I've had the honour of meeting the staff members at the outlet, as they are very special to me.

Why is this KFC branch so special? This is the only KFC branch in Sarawak that is manned by a special group of hearing and speech impaired staff, meaning, a KFC branch that employs the less privileged. Curious, I "talked" (signed - from what I remembered in Primary School. I was really rusty) with one of the staff members and did my little own interview while I was there waiting for my cheque. Apparently, the KFC that they work at are 1 of 3 branches which employs the less privileged. The other two are in Sabah and KL. How very noble of KFC to give them an opportunity to work and not be judged by the public. Huge salute! In my opinion, one of the best things a franchise could do to keep our beautiful country from experiencing a high rate of unemployed citizens.

Upon receiving my cheque and leaving for my next delivery, three of the staff members told me that my cake was "beautiful" in sign language and took many pictures of the cake. I'll definitely pay them a visit one day, and also bringing along cupcakes, too!

Does anyone want to come with?
Let me know! You have my number. :)

xx
